Salt Spring Island
Objective
Seven Ravens Farm is a permaculture academy and eco-forest. The owners contacted Small Planet Energy at the beginning of 2013 to help them power the off-grid home they wanted to build. We were really excited to be a part of this very green building project. Not only is the home made from hempcrete, but it was built entirely with the power of the sun.
The Solution
We built a temporary solar installation that allowed for the building of the home with virtually no generator use. This system powered everything that was required to build the home including drills, skilsaws, miter saws, compressors and even a large 240 volt mixer to mix the hempcrete. When the roof was finished, we relocated the array and doubled it in size to 3kw.
